The RETROL GF-01 Miniature Metal Working Workshop Model Kits with Mechanical Transmission System for Retrol Steam Engine Models is a Steam Engine Model precision-engineered by RETROL. Available for $249.99 USD with free worldwide tracked shipping, 30-day returns, and replacement parts support at Stirlingkit.
A drill press that actually drills. A pedestal grinder with real stones. A street lamp on the corner. All belt-driven from one overhead line shaft — exactly the way factories ran in the 1890s.
If you grew up on metal construction sets and building kits, this scene will feel like coming home — except this time, everything runs. Brass, stainless steel, and aluminum alloy throughout; no plastic pretending to be metal.
Step pulleys on top give you three drive ratios, just like the full-size machine it honors. Chuck up the included 1.5 mm bit and it will genuinely drill through soft stock. Not a prop — a tool in miniature.
Twin abrasive wheels on a belt-driven arbor, mounted on a classic pedestal. Watch them spin up as the line shaft turns overhead.
A vintage-style switch controls the warm glow. Run it from 2×AA batteries (not included) — or wire it to the generator on a RETROL steam engine and let steam make the light.
Flange bearings, pulleys, and three drive belts distribute power from a single input shaft to every machine below — the same transmission logic that ran entire 19th-century factories from one engine.
Tabbed uprights lock into slots on the black iron base for a surprisingly rigid structure. Threads stay clean and true after powder coating, and every part arrives nested in protective foam. Well-illustrated instructions keep each step to a handful of parts — most builders finish in an evening.
48+ CNC-machined metal parts. One evening's build. A lifetime on your desk.
Add to Cart ↑Before every machine had its own electric motor, a single engine spun an overhead shaft that ran the length of the factory floor. Leather belts dropped down to each machine. The GF-01 recreates that power path faithfully, at desk scale:
Turn the input shaft by hand and watch the whole shop wake up — or connect a real power source below.
Leave the three drive belts off and the GF-01 sits as a clean, sculptural machine-shop scene for your desk, shelf, or office. Builder's tip: tape the belts under the base so they're ready the day you decide to upgrade.
Loop the belts, connect a steam engine, and the scene becomes hypnotic: pulleys turning, stones spinning, the lamp glowing over it all. More entertaining than whatever's on TV.

The RETROL SE-03 mill steam engine carries a matching drive pulley on its flywheel — designed from day one to power the GF-01. Fire the boiler, tension the belts, and watch steam pressure become spinning stones, a turning drill, and a glowing lamp. It also pairs with the SE-01, SE-02, and other RETROL steam engine models.

Or start with the GF-01 alone — the mechanism turns by hand, the lamp runs on batteries, and the engine can come later.

I’m really impressed with the RETROL GF‑01 Miniature Metal Working Workshop. It’s solid, precise, and surprisingly powerful for such a small footprint. The craftsmanship is top‑notch, and using it is genuinely fun. It’s one of those kits that immediately feels worth every penny.
This steam engine ,boiler and work station is just fantastic . This the perfect place to order everything you need. If you by chance get shorted on parts they will take care of it quickly. Have fun with your steam!
L'assemblaggio del kit semplice e divertente, ha evidenziato la precisione straordinaria dei componenti, in particolare il trapano è quanto di meglio si può realizzare in miniatura. Il risultato finale è un bell'esempio di ingegneria e di buon gusto.
